Samantha Jane at age 4
Oh, she is such a sweet girl, our Samantha Jane. It is so hard to believe that she is 4. When I steal peeks at her in her room at night when she is sleeping I still can see her precious face as an infant. She looks like a cherub, so happy and peaceful.
But, there is no denying that our girl is getting big. She can put on her coat and zip it up without help, she is learning how to ride a bike, she is a pro at folding napkins and towels and she loves to help make her sandwiches in the morning. She will randomly say things like, "I am getting so big that I can see the tops of the counters now." Little steps to becoming a big girl.
She is still snug as a bug in a rug on the top bunk of her big girl bed. She has a very specific arrangement for her pillows and posse of stuffed animals and everything needs to be just so before she can get under the covers. We are still working on waking up with a dry pull up after nap and nighttime sleep. She is a deep sleeper and just can't seem to wake up when she needs to go.
She has made some strides in her eating in the past few months. She can be encouraged to try bites of just about anything by her Poppy. She has recently declared that she loves soup and eats just about any soup very well. When you ask her what she would like to have for dinner her reply is almost always quesadillas. She still has a HUGE sweet tooth and requests treats several times a day. Our compromise has been gum with xylitol. Randomly, she frequently asks for spicy gum, cinnamon or peppermint.
The girl LOVES to skip and bounce inside and outside. So fun to read her body language and see how happy she is. She also loves to SIIIINNGGG! She will belt out songs whether she knows the words or not.
She is doing great on her big girl bike and we are contemplating taking the training wheels off soon. She told me recently, "You know, I really should be wearing a helmet when I ride." So true. Hopefully Santa will be bringing one. :)
She still loves, loves, loves her school and it is so great to see her thriving there. She is always on cloud 9 when we pick her up and loves to recount silly stories of her classmates and what they did that day. She has really made progress with her Spanish and she has been much more spontaneous with her words in the past few months. She is also working hard on printing letters and numbers. She would love to be able to read by herself. It is not infrequent that I will find her in the playroom reading to her dolls. It always amazes me how many stories she knows almost word for word.
She still likes to play with her princesses but arts and crafts definitely seem to be her favorite activity these days. She will sit and color, cut up tiny pieces of paper and glue paper and pom-poms to just about anything. She and Henry also love to work with Play-Doh together. She loves to roll LOTS of tiny balls and make necklaces and bracelets.
The girl has an amazing memory. Pays recently took her to an indoor pool that they hadn't gone to in the past year. She remembered exactly which water spout wasn't work the last time they had been there. She also knows the car routes to the majority of our regular destinations and gets worked up when we take a detour.
Oh sweet Samantha Jane, we love you so! We are looking forward to another year of watching you grow!
