Henry at 2 and a half

Oh, our Henrys is such a character these days. He is cut of his Poppy's mold that is for sure. My sister-in-law Marty has referred to him as 2.0 and that is pretty on target for my Henry these days.

Henry LOVES one on one time and to just pal around. I took him to a department store this week and he was so happy to just walk around with me and comment on all that he saw. (Henry talks NON-stop). "Oh Mommmy, sthuch pwetty shooes for you!" and "These are for boobies, Mommy, you have boobies." He may have touched 20+ bras in about 10 minutes while I was getting some new undies.

He is my affectionate booger and will come find me after playing for a bit to check-in with an "I missed you" or "I yove you Mommy." Melts a mommy's heart.

He is still our train wreck and danger boy . Today he "accidentally" dumped out a box of dry spaghetti. Last week he dropped our glass sugar container and it broke into tiny shards of glass. Drinks are knocked over on a daily basis. He has some type of new bonk or scrape just about every day that must be band-aided. A few weeks ago Samantha and I came downstairs and found him trying to cut up a pear with a large kitchen knife. We both looked at him, absolutely stunned and he said, "I wanted a thnack!"

He is starting to get into super heroes after watching his older cousins play Spiderman and Batman earlier this summer. When learning about a new character he always asks, "He a good guy or a bad guy?" He still looooves some dinosaurs and is already asking for another dino b-day party because "My bir-day is toming up!" (Both kids love to celebrate a birthday).

Henry is NOT a fan of school yet. We are working up leaving him there for a longer time each time he goes. He cries roughly half the time and clings to the teacher. It is so sad to watch but it is an important transition for him to make. We are trying to focus on school as an opportunity for him to make friends and become more independent like Samantha.

One of Henry's characteristics that is making the transition to school challenging is that he is STUBBORN. He will commit or refuse to do something and dig in his heels. It is not uncommon for him to spend 10+ minutes in time out because he refuses to apologize or correct an action. His response when he is angry or frustrated is often to yell or scream and we are really working on encouraging him to have a CALM reaction to a problem. Needless to say it is a work in progress!

Henry is doing great on the potty but still has to be reminded to take pee breaks. He is very willing to go when we remind him which is super helpful. He will pee anywhere and on anything, such a little boy! When he needs to poop he will announce, "I gotta POO!" and take off running. Instead of backing himself onto the toilet he will climb up facing the back and then walk his feet around the seat until he faces forward. The most dangerous, awkward way to sit on a potty ever. That's our Henry. Then he will let you know that he needs "pwivacy" and he will call us when he is done.

He is doing great in his big boy bed but prefers to sleep in Samantha's old single bed as opposed to sleeping in the bunk beds with Samantha. It makes Samantha so sad, "I am lonely!" but he honestly just cannot stop talking. Mr. Chatterbox can easily just talk himself to sleep. Aspen has been keeping Samantha company on the bottom bunk and she is thrilled to have a buddy.

Henry HATES to be last! (Such a little Poppy). He gets very frustrated when he is the last one down the stairs in the am and the last one out of the car when we come home. He is obsessed with his "yeggy (lady) bug" towel and gets very upset when Samantha requests to wear it. Recently, I have been able to distract him by giving him the frog towel and asking him to show me how a mean frog acts. He still loves animals and will hit the pavement to check out a dead worm or an unusual ant.

Henry and Samantha looooove to play chase and hide and seek. It is so fun to play with them because they just squeal when you find them. Over the past few days they have added an "encarcelado" (in jail) twist to chase. When you catch the person you are chasing you get to lock them in jail and throw away the key. Then they break free and start chasing you. Where did they learn this? I have no clue but it is FUN!

Henry still calls Samantha "Ban-ta." We have been talking a lot about family recently and what everyone's full names are and why. A few times over the past week he has actually said "Samantha" and it makes me feel so sad. I love his name for her and he still says it 100 times a day. I am not ready to not hear it. He loves his big sis and wants to do what she is doing AT ALL TIMES. She seems to like having him as her side kick most of the time and can get him to do all sorts of silly things like dress up for tea parties and put him to sleep like a baby. It is pretty darn cute.
