Our big girl is almost a year and a half! She continues to love being a big sister and is so sweet with Henry. Some of the things we want to remember about this stage...
*She is learning new words! She says Adios! to just about anyone or anything. Adios bath toys! Adios poopy diaper! Adios Aspen! She is also saying Buenas Noches and night-night more frequently.
*She loves her Cabbage Patch Kid (la muneca baby) but the doll has to be naked. Who knows why but if you try to put clothes on her Samantha gets all flustered. Sometimes we mess with her and dress the doll and when she sees her you will hear this fervent clap-clap-clap asking for help to get the clothes OFF!
*She loves music and remembers quite a few of the "lessons" that we learned in her Tuesday am music class. If you ask her to start her beat she will start patting her hands on her legs in a steady beat. She also remembers some of the motions to "Criss-cross applesauce" and "Way up high in the apple tree."
*She loves being outside and likes to walk as far as she can both in the neighborhood and on the Arroyo Verde hiking trails, running up and down the uneven surfaces.
*She can use her fork and spoon very well.
*Her shyness has really improved. She rarely clings to us around strangers but if she does we simply prompt her to greet the person as a friend and she will usually wave and make eye contact. A vast improvement to the tears that would flow when an unfamiliar man stopped by.
*She loves clothes and shoes and is constantly trying to dress herself, her brother and put her shoes/socks on. She has gotten the socks and shoes on a few times and is SO proud when she does it.
*She is learning the names of her body parts and loves to review them on Henry. One of her favorites is pancita which is tummy. I have caught her a few times pulling up her shirt and studying her belly, so funny!
*We are dealing with some whining problems, mostly her trying to get our attention. She then uses her signs very well, but soon we hope she calls us with "mommy or poppy" instead of grunting/whining/screeching...oh the joys!!
Henry is such a sweet, happy little guy but he keeps us on our toes with respect to feeding and sleeping. We have been working hard on extending his daytime naps and working through 45 minute intruders only to have him start waking twice instead of once at night. He also is becoming more finicky about his feeds and often will not feed immediately after waking from a nap or will only do one side. Sometimes the only way I can get him to latch on to feed him is to walk with him and bounce; and he is not so little these days! He is also still not a huge fan of the bottle. Poor Pays has been struggling with his feeds on my works days. I have been working with a lactation consultant who has given us some great advice. Hoping to see some improvement over the next few weeks...
He has rolls and is rolling! Small Fry weighs in at 15.5 pounds these days, quite an armload. He is rolling mostly back to front but can also go front to back. He is not a huge fan of tummy time and is learning how to escape it. He loves the red mobile in the bathroom just like his big sis did and is also quite the splasher in the bathtub. He is so vocal! He will jabber on so loudly while he is playing on his playmats that I worry he could wake Samantha. So cute!
He is such a little Buddha-boy (and not just his weight). The kid loves to be held in a cradle in your arms facing out so he can just sit and stare at the world with his droopy cheeks hanging low. I don't think he has ever cried while sitting being held!
