Henry at age 6

Our birthday boys in the morning of their birthday.  Henry is 6 and Payson is 39.  They are so much a like that I often call them by each other's names.

Henry did request to go out for ice cream on his birthday.  Yep, Goodberry's on January 24th.  The only option is outdoors.  We were chilly but we all enjoyed it.

What is Henry like as a 6 year old?

Busy  The kid is moving all day long. He enjoys working on projects, especially art, and loves to play sports.  He is very interested in basketball right now and did well in soccer over the winter.  He loves to jump on our neighbor's trampoline and will spend hours there playing with his friend Reaghan.

Social He loves to spend time with others and easily makes friends.  He does not enjoy playing by himself but he is making progress in keeping himself busy when the girls are busy or a playmate is not free.

Easily frustrated  His temper is still short but he has made a lot of progress over the past few months.  He is motivated by reward charts to improve his behavior and we recreated a 'Safe Place' for him from his classroom at school.  It is a place he can go to when he needs to take a break from a frustrating situation and do art or another relaxing activity.

Loves animals  Henry loves animals and his request for his birthday was to get a gecko.  A sweet family gave us their 8 year old gecko along with its terrarium.  Sadly, it died about 2 weeks after he moved to our house.  Gammy and Henry bought another one and it is doing very well.  He has done a great job taking care of "Johnny" so far.  He loves going to the barn with Gammy and is interested in doing some riding lessons.

Tolerant of cold/Intolerant of Uncomfortable  Henry NEVER wants to wear a jacket and prefers to wear shorts to school every day.  He told his teacher that he doesn't have to wear a jacket or coat (he was stuffing them in his book bag on the bus).  He prefers to wear "slippery" shorts (athletic type) and hates pants that are too long or too tight.

Forgetful  Jackets (we have lost 4 this year), water bottles, lunch boxes, snack boxes, his book bag, shoes (we have literally arrived at school without shoes on the boy's feet), library books...

Hawk-like eyes  The kid notices amazing details and remembers them.

Affectionate  Henry loves to snuggle in bed with us and on the couch when we watch movies.  He loves to have his back scratched and clutches your hand at night when you pray with him.

Henry loves to watch sports with Payson.  I think this is called the touchdown hand rub...
