Henry and Payson's Birthday

The boys had a great birthday celebration this year. Pays has been getting the kids, and when I say kids I mean our kids and our nieces and nephews, super excited about Star Wars. We have been discussing the various dramatic scenes and relationships for the past few weeks. Henry and Payson's costumes arrived on Monday before the party and it was go time from there. We made a Princess Leia costume for Samantha; she loved having the braid buns. All 3 of them wore their costumes nightly until the party.

The kids help me make a Death Star Pinata out of a punch ball, newspaper and glue. It was really fun but MESSY. Pays did a great job making light sabers out of pool noodles. This was a huge score because on the day of the party the kids had the freedom to actually hit each other with their light sabers and no tears were caused. (Thank you Julie for donating your noodles! They are not easy to find in January).

One of the best parts of the party was having so many of the cousins together. Sally drive to SC the week before and picked up Noah and Tommy so that they were able to be at the party. Thanks Gammy! Pays gave them a crash course in Star Wars in the days prior to the party and by the time Saturday came around they were up to speed and slinging light sabers as fast as their cousins.

Overall the party was a success. It was only 40 degrees outside but we got the kids out to do some Jedi training in the backyard. Pays had set up storm trooper balloons around the yard. The idea was to have the kids do laps around the house and hit the balloons as they ran by but most kids just chose a balloon and light sabered away until all of the helium was knocked out.

The pool noodle light sabers were great in terms of the not-quite-pinata Death Star pinata. It could have used a few more layers of newspaper and thankfully the noodles weren't able to inflict too much damage so every child was able to attempt to destroy it.

It was a FUN day. Somehow I have a feeling that this will not be our last Star Wars party...

Thank you Marty for the great party pictures!

R2 continues to fascinate...

The Tuesday after the party was an incredible day in the 60s and the kids had a great time playing jacket-free at a nearby park.
