Samantha at age 3
Oh how our baby girl has grown! It is really hard to believe that Samantha is 3! She is such a sweet soul and brings so much happiness to our lives. Just before getting her down for her nap today she followed her Poppy around in the garage for 40 minutes helping him fix a piece to our front door asking him nonstop questions and just wanting to be involved. It is such a great snapshot of the stage that she is in right now...a sweet child so inquisitive about the adult world.
The Montessori method of learning has really resonated with Samantha. She loves to be involved in all things grown up and it seems that school reinforces her independent spirit. She is so HAPPY coming home from school and her patience with Henry and his antics is much longer than on non-school days. She loves to try to teach him the skills that she has learned (did you notice the try in there?) and is usually helpful in pointing out Henry's dangerous and/or rude actions. It is a tough balance between tattling and helping.
She continues to love all things princess and can spot a roll of princess wrapping paper or a princess balloon from 100 yards. She is loving the princess castle that her Gammy & Popsy got her for her birthday and still dresses up like a princess almost daily. Cinderella is still her favorite but Belle and Ariel are close seconds.
Samantha is still a great sleeper and naps for about 1.5 hours in the afternoon but can skip it if something else is going on. She is usually awake by 6:30 or 6:45am no matter what time she went to bet the night before and has learned to wait until her alarm clock turns green at 7:00am before calling for us (thank you Tinsleys for showing us this clock!). We still go in every night to check on her and give her a kiss. She is so sweet all snuggled in her bed. Over night it seems she went from not wanting any covers on her to wanting to be tucked very snuggly in with her sheet and quilt. She is often soaked with sweat now when we check on her. Especially is she is wearing her 100% rayon Cinderella jammies!
Samantha's eating is probably what we focus on the most these days. It is tough to get veggies into her and we have gone back to making purees and hiding them in foods and smoothies. We are also working hard on table manners. She is asked to wait patiently until others are done eating and to not interrupt when adults are speaking. It is a constant struggle to have a relaxing meal as a family but one that is worth the effort.
Samantha's dearest friends are her cousins William and Julia and one of her classmates Brooklyn. It is so fun to watch the interactive play as it develops and see how they read each other's behaviors. It is not infrequent that we are laughing at her mini Pays or mini Jen mannerisms.
