On Claire's actual birthday Henry woke up sobbing. When I asked him what was wrong (thinking that he was jealous that it was her special day) he replied, "She's not a baby anymore mom! She's just going to keep getting big!" So sweet of my Henrys and so true, there is just no stopping this little train these days.
Mood...Claire has been a bit grumpier over the past 2 weeks, seems like she is getting some molars in but there has been a lot more squealing and screaming when she is unhappy or wants something. We are working hard on teaching her signs to indicate what she wants.
Appetite...right now dairy rules her world. Whole milk, yogurt, cheese sticks, ice cream...she loves these items. She will generally try most fruits and veggies but often times she spits them out. With the exception of figs, she looooves figs off of our neighbors trees. She eats pork and steak well and is actually not very interested in bread and cereal. She will eat a few bites of scrambled egg in the am but her obsession with them is fading. She is doing great with her zippy cups of water and milk. She prefers to have 5+ ounces of milk in the am and prior to sleep but we are working on cutting her back.
Activity...she is go, go. go. She loves to walk around outside in the driveway and on the sidewalk when the big kids are riding their bikes. She is a lot harder to keep up with at the pool and is constantly teetering on falling in. She still loves to swing and she is enjoying climbing on playground equipment at the park more. She has also discovered how fun it is to climb on stools. She has become a huge fan of books and will back her booty into an open lap if she has found a book that she would like to read. Right now we read "The Foot Book" several times a day and she also loves "Moo, Baa, La La La." She really loves being outside. If she is super grumpy at night Pays will walk around with her outside and it really calms her down. Claire has also really been getting into practicing fine motor skills. She loves to concentrate and puts caps of markers on and off and on and off and she also loves to load bullets in Henry's nerf gun.
Words...she is still mostly making sounds, Ma Ma Ma, Ba Ba Ba and Pa, Pa, Pa but she will say Hi and Bye. She tries to repeat back sounds pretty willingly (see video with Pays below).
Sleep...she has finally dropped her dream feed. Honestly, I miss the time with her at night but (potentially) going to sleep earlier is so nice. She wakes up about 6:00am and we give her 5oz of milk in her sippy cup and she will drink it and generally rest (I don't think she goes back to sleep) until about 7:00. She is still napping twice a day and currently she likes to take a longer am nap, 9:30-11:30, and a shorter 1-1.5 hour nap in the afternoon. She is usually down for the night at about 8:00pm. It is a GOOD schedule.
This is a fun period for us, she is learning new skills everyday. It is amazing to watch her transform from a baby to a child in front of our eyes!
