This past week we headed north to watch my cousin compete in his second full length IronMan in Lake Placid, NY. When we first heard about the race and the opportunity to spend time with family in this beautiful place we immediately said "Yes, we are in!" We had no idea that LP was practically in Canada! We decided to break up the 14 hour drive into 3 days on the way up and stopped at fun places along the way, like Hershey, PA. The kids were troopers in the car and the iTouch really came through to entertain Samantha.
The IronMan was on Sunday, July 24th and we had a great time cheering on Brian and the other participants. It was so inspiring to see so many people pushing their bodies to an ultimate test. Aunt Jane had special shirts for us to wear and there were no shortage of cow bells. Poor Dad clapped his hands bloody. Pays even jogged along Brian with the kids in the jogger stroller for a bit at the end of his run to help encourage him. Brian finished in 11 hours 14 minutes. Awesome work!
We had the rest of the week to enjoy our beautiful surroundings and did some hiking, road biking and touring of the 1980 Olympic Complex. It was a great week, absolutely worth the long drive in the car.
