We were so lucky to catch my grandparents on the tail end of their 3 week vacation to the northeast. It had been a YEAR since we had last seen them, way too long.
We received an awesome surprise from Grandpa when they first arrived. He has made digital files of all of our family's photos going back to his grandparents and he has created a 3 DVD slideshow of the highlights complete with music. How cool is that? The DVDs are amazing and it is very moving to watch our family to progress from immigrants to where we all are today. Such an amazing gift that we look forward to sharing with generations to come. It keeps me motivated to keep blogging.
Grandma took time to teach us another family Italian recipe. The day before they left we made homemade meatballs together. Yum! They were the biggest meatballs she had ever made since Pays had a hand in shaping them but they were bursting with flavor. Gram even took the time to write the recipe out for us some we can read it in years to come in her beautiful cursive.
We also celebrated Grandpa's 80th birthday a few weeks early since we were all together. Mom & Dad hosted a great BBQ on Father's Day complete with Italian sausage, homemade burgers and the biggest pan of baked beans you have ever seen. Grandma and Grandpa surprised us with homemade cannoli shells that they made in Florida and brought with them. Uncle Joe & Aunt Linda made a delicious filling that was incredible. All 70 shells disappreared in about 30 minutes. Samantha tried one and was immediately asking for more.
What a great visit. we hope to see them again soon.
