The Thompson Family: Claire at 1 month

It's hard to believe that our sweet Claire is already 5 weeks old. She is a precious infant and we are all loving her more and more every day.

She had her 1 month well child check this week and she has gained 18 ounces in the past 2 weeks! She currently weighs 8 pounds 10 ounces which is 50th percentile. Her length is 21.5 inches which is also 50th percentile.

The girl LOVES to eat. She spends 20-45 minutes nursing 8-9 times a day. She tends to cluster feed in the morning; every 2 hours until about 2:00pm when she likes to take a longer nap. It is soooo nice having all 3 kids sleeping at once. She will then take a short cat nap after dinner and likes to be going down for another longer stretch of sleep around 9:00. I have tried many times to get her to do a "dream" feed between 10-11 but she is often too sleepy to nurse for more than a few minutes. For a while she was waking at 3:00am to nurse and not again until 6:00 but over the past week she is getting up at 2:00am and 5:00am. What a difference an hour can make on getting going in the morning!

We have been getting some sweet smiles and coos from her over the past week. Her big brother and sister love to hear her trying to "talk" to them. She is now spending more time awake and can focus on toys and pictures that are close to her.

Claire LOVES to be outside. Her big blue eyes fly wide open when we go outside for our evening walk and it seems like she hardly blinks because she is trying to take all of the scenery in.

She has continued to do well with a soothie pacifier but now she definitely wakes up when it falls out if she is not deeply asleep.

We have transitioned her to her crib in the nursery and she is sleeping well there. She still prefers to sleep on her side. We will loosely swaddle her with he arms up on her chest. She HATES to have her arms tucked at her sides.

She has started to have small spit ups after nursing. It makes the big kids nervous and they will come tearing across the house to find me, "Claire has vomitos!"
