Uncanny Series of Events

The typical questions that we are asked these days are, "How are you adjusting to having a newborn?" and "Are you getting any sleep?" Samantha, for the most part, has been fantastic and we have had only a few rough nights. It is LIFE that has been killing us over the past few weeks! I thought I would write down a few of the events so that we would not forget them farther down the road.

1. A few days after we got home from the hospital we received a bill from T-Mobile for $300. We had realized be before our billing cycle had ended that we were over our minutes with 8 days to go and a baby on the way. I had called to change our plan and add more minutes before our bill was generated but the CS rep that I spoke with never made the changes to add more minutes. After alot of fussing we were refunded $80 and we are now Verizon customers.
2. Rain in southern California is always welcome. It came early this year and like it does every year it send ants out of their burrows and into people's homes. Apparently they like cat and dog food. We have had several 30-45 minute cleaning sessions involving killing HUNDREDS of ants on their way to our pets' food bins. Yuck!
3. Because of #2 we have been using way more household cleaner that we usually do. The dogs apparently found it quite tasty because Friday night they both vomited multiple times on our new Persian rugs. Bruno was very sick and actually had shaking chills all night long. They both have recovered and we have moved on to a new all purpose cleaner.
4. Our washer died Sunday night with a load in it. It wouldn't have been a big deal but see #5.
5. Sunday night Bruno decided to take a huge whiz on our bed. Not a I-want-to-mark-over-the-baby's-scent kind of whiz but a I-have-been-holding-it-for-three-hours one. It soaked our duvet cover, duvet and sheets. VERY frustrating. I can't remember the last time I have contemplated my dog's mortality twice in one weekend.
6. Apparently bees also don't like the rain. My friend Gillian and I were each stung multiple times yesterday while hiking at Arroyo Verde. Luckily Samantha was snuggled in the Ergo and wasn't stung at all. It has been a LONG time since I had a bee sting. They still hurt like crazy.

We are able to see the humor in all of these events at this point but I have to say that a few times I felt like I was getting hit by some sort of bad karma train!
